I don't know how to tell which version of 3.56 my two units have, so if someone knows an easy way to recover the PUP file or tell the date of last firmware upgrade on the PS3, I could verify the exact version of the firmware in the units I have that don't detect Cinavia. In an earlier post, someone reported that 3.56 still had Cinavia protection, but I noticed from the post date that it was in the window between the release of V1 and V2, so it must have been a report on 3.56 V1. Both versions are labeled 3.56, and have the same number of bytes. The second version was rushed out around Feburary 1st with a patch to fix this. I did a little digging and I discovered that there are actually TWO different versions of firmware 3.56, because the first one they released (Jan 26th/27th ish) included a regression bug from an earlier version which broke updates for those people who have upgraded their hard drives. I happen to have 3 PS3's, and I noticed that the one running firmware 3.60 definitely finds Cinavia on two of my transcodes, but both of the ones running 3.56 DO NOT. The final step of my tool chain involves using Handbrake to transcode my BD's to x264 mp4's, and I use the PS3 as a media center, streaming from a linux host running mediatomb. I don't use the AnyDVD tool chain myself, but I noticed something interesting about PS3 firmware versions and I thought I'd run it by you guys in case someone here finds it helpful or possibly has some additional ideas that I haven't thought about yet. Now I am running into it on the same movies.except as I pointed out with The Losers and LPCM. I used to play all the infected movies fine, no Cinavia, by enabling "multi-out" audio, and enabling all the Optical options. I was able to workaround the Cinavia for both of us for a while using the "multi-out" trick, but it looks like the latest FW messed that up too. Not sure if this info can help some new ideas pop up or not. In fact, the option to remux DTS to Linear is the ONLY variance in our server settings. The only thing I can see that is breaking the Cinavia for him is the remux of the DTS to Linear PCM. The other 2 Cinavia infected movies in my arsenal. The Other Guys and The Karate Kid.both are affected equally on both our consoles.they mute after 20 minutes. He can watch the whole movie straight thru, no problems. When I stream The Losers, I get the message after 20 minutes. My server is set to re-encode DTS to AC3 as I don't have an HDMI receiver, only the TV. His server is set to remux DTS to Linear PCM as he has a HDMI capable receiver. We both have the latest FW update, and we both use PS3 Media Server to stream to our respective consoles. for some reason, The Losers plays fine on my roommate's PS3.
